Teaching, Equipping and Mentoring students at Christie Elementary
Christie Elementary School is a bilingual school within Frisco ISD, and approximately half of the students at Christie are on the free or reduced lunch program. Through T.E.A.M. Christie, individuals from Preston Trail work to support the Christie faculty and students through Teaching, Equipping and Mentoring.
The primary way to get involved in T.E.A.M. Christie is through our literacy program. Team members, or coaches, spend 30 minutes each week reading with a K-5th grade child at Christie Elementary. To become a coach, please complete our T.E.A.M. Christie Coach Application.
The children who have been identified for the program are in great need of reading practice, and benefit greatly from having stories read to them as well as having the opportunity to read stories aloud to a T.E.A.M. Christie coach. T.E.A.M. Christie coaches are encouraged to develop relationships with these students by regularly meeting with them each week to work on teacher-prepared activities. This time together has the potential to make a lifelong impact on a child’s future.
Partnering with Christie Elementary since 2007, Preston Trail Community Church serves students, faculty and families through T.E.A.M. Christie. T.E.A.M. Christie provides volunteer mentors (coaches) for students, supports various faculty needs and hosts events for families and faculty throughout the year. Additionally, T.E.A.M. Christie provides resources to support various needs at the school such as financial donations for new library books, classroom snacks, school supplies and scholarships to students for Pine Cove Camp in the City. Preston Trail Community Church was presented with a Community Partner Award by Frisco Education Foundation in 2016; recognizing our school partnership with Christie Elementary.
