What is a Life Verse?
A life verse is a truth that when adopted gives our lives a sense of structure and order
We pick up our life verses from the influencers, circumstances, and experiences of our lives
We all have Life Verses
All life verses are not created equal!
We want to challenge you to adopt a verse that leads to life!
Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is —his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:1-2)
God’s mercy is the ultimate motivation for life! (v. 1)
- Focus on the stunning clarity of God’s mercy
We were spiritually helpless and hopeless (Romans 6:23)
Jesus died to rescue us from our sin (Romans 5:8)
We are made whole by our faith in him (Romans 5:1)
We are adopted into God’s family (Romans 8:16-17)
- The most reasonable response to God’s mercy is to offer your whole self back to him as a living expression of gratitude
We give all of who we are back to him as a “thank offering”
Now, every part of our life has the potential to be an expression of our worship
His mercy compels us to give him our highest and best self
Take away: What you view changes what you do!
How, then, can we live our highest and best life for God (v. 2)
- We begin by unlearning the ways of thinking and acting we picked up from the world
- We start learning God’s ways of thinking and acting in the world
To renew your mind review his mercy
To renew your mind impute new “life verses”
To renew your mind practice these new principles
- The natural outflow of this process is the transformation of our lives!
Take Away: If you don’t conform, but transform, you will perform!
